Det ambivalenta engagemanget vid förvaret: Gränsande, solidaritet och sörjbarhet vid svenska förvar

Sammanfattning: This master's thesis aims to analyze how bordering, solidarity and grievability are expressed in the participants' commitment with detainees in detention. Furthermore, the essay captures stories about everyday experiences of what it means to be involved in non-profit organizations or activist networks that are active in Swedish detention centers. It is of interest to study how the deprivation of liberty of individuals into custody creates boundaries and divisions in society as a result of conceptions of citizens/non-citizens within the institution's practices. In the participants' stories it arises a divide between the nonprofit organizations and the activist networks' goals with their engagements. It also develops that some of the practices that the participants do to show support and care, can enable the Swedish migration agency (Migrationsverket) to continue the border- and migration processes without getting criticized. An ambivalence arises, as there are opportunities to create a more equal society for individuals in a precarious situation and at the same time there are risks of expanding oppressive bordering processes that arise within detention.
