Sammanfattning: The place I have been working with is a garden, belonging to a family estate, called Tolvmansgården. It is located on an island northeast of Norrtälje in Roslagen. The frontage is red with white corners like so many other houses in the neighbourhood, but ours is one of the oldest houses on the island. Today the house and garden is own by my mother, Pia Johansson. Since I've started my education in garden design my interest for our country garden has increased. I think that it would be very interesting to se how it may have been, what kind of changes it has gone through and how it can develop further. My purpose has been to develop ideas and a proposal which creates a picture of how the garden can be shaped with history as an important inspiration. In my sketches, historical fragments and stylistic features I try to create the impression of an old-time garden thought it also contains new elements, plants and shapes. I have got my most important information about the present and the historical garden during my interviews with my mother, Pia Johansson, her oldest relatives and through the photographs that they found, and the information that I have collected at Lantmäteriet. The inventory and the measurements that I made helped me get a clearer picture of the garden today. I understood, from the interviews, that some of the elements in the garden today have been there since the end of the 19th century. Sadly these elements are few. Their stories have been very interesting. The most interesting information that I have gathered during this study is what I found at Lantmäteriet. Reading texts and looking at maps from the end of the 19th century is very fascinating. My main thoughts around the future garden is keeping the oldest elements, and making sure that they blend in and makes the garden look whole. But still get the right to radiate their own character and history. Today's demands must of course be for filled, so it can be a functional garden. Though the garden must give a warm and private feeling.
