Sammanfattning: Nowadays, the leading ladies in animations are strong and independent in a lot of productions from various studios around the world. The representative of society's shifting attitudes toward gender roles plays a big part in characterisation, of the representation of gender in their animated films. That children gets to grow up without having a specific role assigned to them. But it hasn't always been like that. The difference between male and female leads have been divided into gender roles for a long time. In this paper, I will take a closer look at how the female character in two different studious gets represent, and how it breaks the gender roles, that have previously been assigned to the female sex. It will happen over a gender analysis of Mulan (1998) produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and Prinsesse Mononoke (1997) Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and produced by Studio Ghibli.
