Vart jag mig i världen vänder står jag här med tomma händer

Detta är en Magister-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Centrum för teologi och religionsvetenskap

Sammanfattning: This master thesis aims to examine the concepts of gratitude, hope, and forgiveness within Christian theology and how these concepts have been transformed within the discourse of positive psychology. Positive psychology is the fastest-growing field within psychology, a field studying how people can live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. The concepts of gratitude, hope, and forgiveness are being reused within positive psychology as character strengths. Character strengths are positively valued traits that are predicted to contribute to the good life. My research reflects how these concepts have been reconstructed within positive psychology and how their meaning significantly differs in relation to Christian theology. Positive psychology overshadows and neglects several important aspects and conditions of these concepts in their attempt of demonstrating how people can live more fulfilling lives. Thus, Christian theologians are required to take action and contribute with comprehensible and accessible theological interpretations of gratitude, hope, and forgiveness.
