Konkurrensen i den svenska banksektorn : En tillämpning av Panzar-Rosse modellen

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Södertörns högskola/Nationalekonomi

Sammanfattning: This paper examines the market competition in the Swedish banking industry and which factors that affects it. The main purpose is to examine which market structure is characterizing the banking industry. This is done by applying a regression analysis based on the Panzar-Rosse model for 2011-2018. The results of the analysis indicate that the Swedish banking industry operates under monopolistic competition and that the market operates in a long run equilibrium. The results also show that perfect competition can be excluded, but not that the market would not be in a monopoly state. The four major banks SEB, Handelsbanken, Nordea and Swedbank, have so far had the majority of market shares, but in recent times new operators have started taking over in different banking areas. Despite that, the level of competition in Sweden has decreased since the start of the 21st century, which shows that there is a lack of competition in the Swedish banking industry.
