Sammanfattning: The purpose of this report was to compile the current knowledge regarding design and function of evacuation signage and evacuation lighting in road and railway tunnels. Another purpose was to shed light on any issues in the aforementioned regulations and standards. This was done by conducting two study visits, a literature review, an interview study and an analysis. To ensure that evacuation is initiated, road users and train passengers need distinct information about what has occurred and how they are expected to act. In smoke-filled environments, evacuation signs and evacuation lighting can be difficult to see. Therefore continuous lighting should be used between emergency exits instead of spot lighting and emergency exits should be equipped with sound beacons. To ensure evacuation works as intended in road tunnels, emergency exits should be uniformly designed and training and information campaigns aimed at road users should be executed. In road tunnels, there is some uncertainty regarding the requirements for the design of evacuation signs. Furthermore, in both road and railway tunnels, there is no clear description of the lighting concept used and what these include.
