Sammanfattning: Introduction. Cognitive functioning of patients with bipolar disorder is often impaired, predicting impaired psychosocial functioning. Lately, programs of functional remediation attempting to address these difficulties, have been developed. Acceptance of cognitive dysfunction has not been scientifically explored. The present study aimed at investigating psychosocial functioning and acceptance of cognitive dysfunction of participants undergoing the CIBERSAM functional remediation program, while also exploring the feasibility of the program, launched in Sweden for the first time. Method.Fifteen outpatients participated. Psychosocial functioning and acceptance were assessed throughout treatment. A multiple case study was conducted to investigate reliable and clinically significant changes. Feasibility was evaluated through attrition analysis, interviews and post-evaluations. Results. Pre- and posttreatment comparisons showed significant differences in one instrument measuring an aspect of psychosocial function. A majority of participants achieved reliable change in psychosocial functioning and acceptance. Nine participants dropped out. A majority of participants were satisfied with the treatment. Conclusion. Patients completing a functional remediation program showed improved psychosocial functioning, especially in occupation. Acceptance of cognitive dysfunction should be further explored. The program has acceptable feasibility. Other programs could be considered. Programs targeting psychosocial function of bipolar patients should be considered by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare
