Migranter och barnomsorg - En kvalitativ studie om kurdiska familjers förutsättningar och strategier, ett transnationellt perspektiv

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to investigate what preconditions Kurdish families in Sweden have to solve childcare and how they do it. This was done by using qualitative, semi-structured interviews with six Kurdish mothers of young children and theoretical foundations that links childcare, welfare conditions and transnational migration. The study shows that migration causes a vulnerability which makes migrants attempting to secure their welfare and to overcome their vulnerability in relation to childcare by involving local and transnational networks into their strategies to solve childcare. In addition to this, the study also shows that the mothers undertake the main responsibility for childcare in the families and that the main help from the social networks comes from other women. Furthermore, the access to information, availability to institutionalized childcare in general, and segregation affects migrant's strategies regarding their childcare.
