Sammanfattning: Adolescents who stutter can be difficult to reach with stuttering treatment as this period is characterized by complex development. For the development of stuttering treatment for adolescents, knowledge is required of what treatment is available, how it is perceived by adolescents and how it may impact adulthood. The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of stuttering and its treatment and effects in adolescence and adulthood through a mixed method design. Twenty- eight adults who stutter answered an online survey. Stuttering affected the participants significantly more in adolescence than adulthood. Male participants reported a higher degree of stuttering during adolescence than female participants. Stuttering had a higher negative impact in adolescence and adulthood for those who received treatment during adolescence. Treatment was experienced to have an effect to varying degrees. The results motivate treatments focusing on the diverse characteristics of adolescence, because of difference between received and desired therapy.
