Ett eko i byggprocessen? - En kvalitativ studie över hur ekosystemtjänster som underlag kommuniceras genom Riksbyggens byggprocess
Sammanfattning: The purpose of this master´s thesis was to evaluate how the data, generated through Riksbyggens´s tool for analyzing ecosystem services in housing projects, is communicated and used through the stages of Riksbyggen´s housing development process. Furthermore, the purpose was to use this information to suggest how Riksbyggen can improve the communication related to the inclusion of ecosystem services in their building process. The methods used to gather empirical data were twofold. Qualitative interviews, conducted with project managers and outdoor environment management, were used as a primary method. It was combined with a document analysis of documents used by Riksbyggen to steer the communication. This study shows that, overall, the communication of the ecosystem service-data, through the housing development process, is functioning well. The data is communicated through documents and the project managers. Knowledge and understanding about ecosystem services seem to increase during the process among the project managers by using the analyzing-tool together with an sustainability expert. Furthermore, the tool´s analyzing results serve as a supporting feature for the project managers in the communication of ecosystem services during the process. This study also shows that the expertise, possessed by the sustainability experts, is of particular importance in the knowledge transfer of ecosystem services. Also, the results points to the early communication in the process as beeing of great importance for implementing the data into the housing projects. Both project managers and the documents used to steer the communication is of great importance in this regard. However, two areas of improvement were identified. Riksbyggen can improve the involvement of their employees responsible for the maintenance of the outdoor environments. The study finds that their role and knowledge can be implemented earlier and clearer in the process during the design of the outdoor environments and the early constrution of project specific objectives. This can hopefully lead to a knowledge transfer in two directions. Lastly, there seem to be a very limited or nonexsisting rutine for transfering experiences about the use and implementation of ecosystem services between finsished and new housing projects. However, this perspecitve has to be studied further and deeper to establish concrete measures for improvement which can be suggested to Riksbyggen.
