Veto för världsfreden

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: The United nations security council have during the last three decades been criticised for obstruction of justice and member countries for abusing their powers. The five permanent members in the council are the only countries with the ability to obstruct resolutions to pass through in council votings. Since 1990 the P5 countries have used their right to veto 44 times and by that made it impossible for the council to fulfill its purpose. The P5 countries act on the basis of different preferences. The conclusion is that all five permanent members act individually when using veto in votings. They use veto, according to the P5 members, as a means of protecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity and human rights.
