Sammanfattning: The aim of this essay was to examine the importance assigned to the partner whenpregnant women are faced with the decision to have an abortion. We also wantedto examine women’s encounter with the women’s healthcare and what it looks likeduring an abortion. The method we used was qualitative interviews to answer ouraim and research questions. We used theories and concepts regarding selfdetermination, feminist perspectives, coping theory and social support theory toanalyze our results. The conclusions were that women’s self determination wasstrong and most women made the choice from their own opinion. Womenexperienced different kinds of support and non-support from their partners whichincluded practical, physical and emotional support or the lack of them. Most of themrequested more emotional support. We found that the relationships got affected bythe way their partners gave support to the women. The women that received goodsupport got affected in a positive way, or not at all, and the women that didn’treceive the support they needed got affected in a more negative way with feelingsof disappointment. In the encounter with the women's healthcare were some womennot offered any counselling support, which should be offered by law. Some womenexperienced negative treatment from the women’s healthcare and were met withguilt and some women experienced good support where they got treated withrespect for their choice.
