Sammanfattning: The purpose of this master thesis is to study public librarians’ approach to working for participation and inclusion in the literacy context specifically aimed for children and young people with disabilities. The theoretical framework draws on the critical disability theory developed by Devlin and Pothier and Goodley and Runswick-Cole. Furthermore Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system theory developed over time by Bronfenbrenner. In total five semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with public librarians from five different libraries around Sweden. The results reveal that the public librarians have different strategies and approaches when it comes to creating inclusion and participation for the target group in reading promotion activities. They collaborate with other occupational categories and through marketing to reach the target group and to customize reading promotion activities. In some cases, librarians use trial and error as an approach. In order to increase accessibility for the target group, it is proposed that public librarians need support in different forms and at different levels, adequate continuous staff development as well as organizational stability.
