Sammanfattning: The study examines how teachers describe that they work in vocational upper secondary school in mathematics courses. This is based on the conditions the students have when they start the course in order for them to succeed as well as possible. Furthermore, it is examined how they consider their way of working to be linked to the students 'prior knowledge, student factors that affect the students' potential and how they work specifically with profession-related topics which is new in the revised syllabi for the course. The method used to conduct the study is a semi-structured interview with qualitative questions. The survey is conducted with 7 teachers who now teach the course Ma1a. The study shows that the above-mentioned factors that affect students' potential are something teachers actively work with but in different ways. The teachers turn out to share perceptions about student factors that affect the results that are mainly linked to the motivation of the students and how to work to minimize these through relationship building. The conclusion that can be drawn from our study is that a working method based on a traditional teaching method with clear expectations of the students is common. The two factors that, according to the teachers, affect how well the students manage the course the most are the students' motivation and the relationship between the teachers and the students. This is also consistent with previous research. However, it appears that there is potential for improvement around working with mathematics related to the student’s profession in teaching to increase students' motivation, which in turn can contribute positively to their results.
