Sammanfattning: This thesis describes redesign and adaption of a products housing. In order to make it more economical to produce at a lower production volume. The thesis is based upon a prototype that a previous student developed for injection moulding. The goal is to find alternative manufacturing methods, but also to identify parameters that affect the cost of the injection moulding tool. The housing must be tough in order to protect the circuit board inside. But at the same time it must allow sound, light an electrical communication to pass through. The product is supposed to be used by the police as a sound barrier and an alternative to water cannons and distraction grenades. But the product may also find uses in civil applications. Gathering of information about possible manufacturing methods was the first step in the process. These have then been culled down to a handful. Manufacturers was later visited to get a better understanding about associated possibilities and limitations. The next step was to generate concepts and to create CAD files in order to get quotes from the manufactures. The concepts and associated manufacturing methods could then be analysed based upon cost and functionality. Press braking and thermoforming resulted in a reduction of investment by 73 % (188 500SEK) and 36 % (93 600SEK). Important parameters for an injection moulding tool is surface finish, number of core pins, cams and of course the number of tools. At least some alterations to the concepts may be necessary prior to production.
