Sammanfattning: This essay focuses on how young adults in Umeå perceive and cope with their loose connections to the labour market. The essay is written in line with the research project Except and is a qualitative study. We have used a snowball sample and semi-structured interviews based on five individuals, three men and two women. The purpose has been to reach an understanding of how they experience and cope with their loose connections to the labour market. The method we have used as part of the essay is a thematic analysis which we interpret using Anthony Giddens theory of structuration as well Michel Foucault theory of power and discipline. The study shows that our informants experienced mental illness as well as social exclusion as a result of their loose connection to the labour market. The study also show a strong power difference between individual and institution where the individual’s own ideas and initiative were inferior to the institution.
