Sammanfattning: Background: Caring for patients with borderline personality disorder has proven to be difficult, which also reflects the treatment and care these patients experience that they are receiving. Nursing care in an inpatient ward is experienced as both supportive and non-supportive, and Barker and Buchanan-Barker's tidal model have been the basis for understanding these different aspects. Purpose: To describe how patients with the diagnosis borderline personality disorder experience support in nursing care. Method: Semi-structured interviews via Skype / Face Time or Messenger were conducted with five research persons recruited via blogs or Instagram accounts. The result was analyzed with qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Result: The care that the research persons experienced as supportive in inpatient ward consisted of being seen for whom they were with good treatment by genuinely interested staff who took the research persons seriously and tried to understand and help. What was felt to be non-supportive was to have their dignity violated by being faced with prejudices,  not to be taken seriously and to not be entitled to their feelings and opinions and when the staff often thought they knew what was best. This resulted in a desire to experience genuine care and to be treated with competence. Conclusion: Nursing perceived as supportive consisted of small act of respect and goodwill. Likewise, no major measures were required to change experiences from non-supportive to supportive.
