Avfall inom byggproduktion : Strategier för att minska mängden byggavfall under nyproduceringen av flerbostadshus

Sammanfattning: Out of all industries, the construction industry has the greatest impact on the Swedish waste volume apart from the mining sector. With the help of national- and international legal statutes and frameworks, the construction industry's sustainability work is shaped for an improved waste management and for a generally reduced stress on our environment.The purpose of this thesis is to provide a strategic method containing several measures of improvement to construction waste management regarding Peab Sverige AB. These measures are expected to reduce the quantities of waste and pollution, thus reducing Peab’s environmental effects. The work on this thesis was done by identifying current methods for waste management of non-hazardous construction waste and to shed light on the current frameworks in order to identify areas of improvement. The following questions were formulated: ● What amount of construction waste, in terms of weight, volume and type of waste, are to be expected during different construction stages and can it be predicted and planned for in different projects to achieve the waste goals set by the company? ● What factors affect the amount of construction waste in a positive and negative sense? ● Do any patterns emerge among the projects that can be taken into account for analysis and for development of an improvement strategy? This report studies data from statistics and interviews from five currently ongoing projects in region Öst and region Stockholm carried out by Peab Sverige AB. In addition a literature study was suitable approaches to answer the questions above and to help Peab become more sustainable.Based on analysis of statistics, literature and interviews, it is clear that broad and elaborated frameworks have been formulated at a national-, international- and industry level and that these have had a positive impact on the sustainability work by the industry. However, the amount of waste is not perceived to decrease, which requires further measures for waste prevention and waste reduction. This report concludes that Peab Sverige AB currently strives toward reducing waste and has a high potential for improvement. An increase in waste prevention could be achieved by solving obstacles that obstruct preventive efforts such as a lack of time to properly apply and uphold company standards, a lack of personal engagement in said standards or differing interpretations of company frameworks that lead to differing results. Companies like Peab have the opportunity to further mprove their waste-prevention and sustainability, and need to advocate for further industry-wide development to help minimize stress on the climate.
