Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to investigate and demonstrate different techniques that you as a double bass can use to widen your ability to accompany, and by so broaden the form of bass playing. The study is solely focused on pizzicato playing and it explores how to play chords on double bass. The double bass is usually regarded as a homophonic instrument and with this study the polyphonic possibilities are explored. To demonstrate the different moments, a few well known standard songs from the so called "American songbook” is used. The idea of the study came from the fact that I for sometime had the urge to find more tools for playing bass in conventional music. The study isn ́t about finding "new" sounds, so called "extended techniques", it ́s about finding more tools to use in conventional music. With more tools, I do not mean tools in it ́s true meaning, such as pizzicato, arco playing etc. I mean several ways to attack the actual role of bass playing.
