Att göra kön - en diskursanalys av utredande socialsekreterares resonemang kring ungdomars sexualitet och prostitution

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to emphasize how Social Workers seen from a gender perspective reasoned about youth sexuality and about male and female prostitution. Our question at issue concerns how gender is constructed based on the Social Secretaries discussion about sexuality and prostitution. The used method was qualitative and the empirical evidence was collected through semi-structured interviews based on two short case studies which the Informants had to consider and discuss. Nine Informants participated in the study and the interviews were performed at five occasions, whereas three were group interviews and two were individual interviews. The results from the interviews have been analyzed with a discursive approach, based on discourse psychology, and the statements from the informants have been interpreted and rooted in previous science and gender theory. Through observing and analysing our empirical data closely a clear pattern of how Social Workers spoke about feminity and masculinity and how they through the speech made a difference based on the youth´s gender was discerned. We have further reasoned about which consequences these apparent differences could have for the individual and how this as a consequence can contribute to the maintenance of existing social norms and existing gender system.
