Sagan om villkorstrappan : en narrativ analys av nyhetsmediers rapportering om polisens flaggförbud på Studenternas IP 2021
Sammanfattning: This paper examines how five news media magazines in Sweden, Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Upsala Nya Tidning and Svenska Dagbladet, tell the story of how and when the Swedish police decided to ban flags at Uppsala football club IK Sirius home stadium Studenternas IP in September 2021. Qualitative method was used to examine and analyze 25 articles from a perspective of narrative theory and framing theory. The results suggest that journalists of all newspapers create a story consisting of a conflict between supporters and the police, where the football supporters are framed as the protagonist and the police as the antagonist. The intrigue follows a specific order of events starting with the police banning flags from being used among the crowd at the stadium. This leads to a series of events where the police are exposed to massive criticism from a number of characters and blamed for constituting a threat to football in Sweden. The news media and the journalists highlight the police as the villain in this narrative. In general the story is told from the perspective of football supporters who are essential for the game, even without including them directly in the articles. Our conclusion is that the journalists choose to frame the conflict between the supporters and the police in a way that heavily differs from how news media have tended to report about football fans and even so called hooliganism prior to the events relating to the flag ban at Studenternas IP in 2021.
