Sammanfattning: The idea of basic income has been around for a long time but in recent years the debate has grown due to the corona pandemic and the fears regarding technology improvements and automation. Those who are critical to basic income mainly highlights the concern that the incentives to work would be weakened with a monthly payment. The purpose of this reportis therefore to summarize what an introduction of basic income would have for effects on labour supply among individuals and households in Sweden. The thesis also aims to provide an insight into the complexity of basic income. The purpose will be answered by studying previous research and economic theory. Our results show that basic income affects the labour supply but not to the same extent as economic theory tells us. The effects on the labour market are small and can be both positive and negative. Since the results are inconclusive, the effects of basic income on the Swedish labour force are hard to estimate.
