Klostret, ruinen och rekonstruktionen

Sammanfattning: This thesis seeks to examine the usage of photogrammetry when reconstructing ruined buildings. This is done by re-construing the abbey of Gudhem with 3D documentation of the ruined site as a basis to great effect, although some issues arose mostly due to human error. The result is used to answer to second research question of this thesis. The reconstruction is placed in a Virtual Reality application to problematize the issue of insecure facts in reconstructions of buildings, all while providing a fun experience for the user of the application. Several versions of the reconstructions are created to highlight different methods of demonstrating insecure facts. The created VR application was then tested by a test group to determine what method was most appropriate. The result of this test is compared to another test group who instead read a written text regarding the same subject topic to determine best methods to mediate uncertainty of reconstructions. The results of this thesis show that the use of photogrammetry when reconstructing buildings is very suitable and can provide a suitable starting point for the reconstruction. All versions of the reconstruction were suitable to demonstrate uncertainty and are best used together to create a clearer picture of the subject. It does however fall short of the written text in some areas and text or voice over should be used in a future application to give further context to the information given.
