Sammanfattning: This essay examines how superhero comics were used for spreading propaganda during the second world war and the Vietnam war. The goal is to show how superheroes have been used to spread propaganda during these historical events. This is done by conducting a qualitative content analysis of the text and an art analysis. The material that’s studied in this is essay is American comics from the following periods 1943-1945, 1966-1967 and 1969-1971. The characters who are the focus of these comics are Captain America, Wonder Woman, Superman and the X-Men. The main theory used in this essay is “illdådspropaganda” and anticommunism. The result of the analysis is that the comics from World War two is filled with war propaganda aimed at the Nazis and the Japanese. The comics from the Vietnam war didn’t contain as much propaganda and the propaganda in these comics mostly didn’t focus on the war. The propaganda in these comics instead focused on different social issue the US faced during this time.
