"Man får fråga sig fram": Fem trumpetlärares erfarenheter av skador relaterade till trumpetspel

Sammanfattning: The physical aspects of playing the trumpet are sometimes compared to practicing sports in terms of strength and stamina. Just like injuries may cause big problems to athletes, an injury could be devastating to a musician's career. With this taken into consideration, several questions come to my mind about which teaching methods that can be used to prevent injuries and what a teacher can do if the cause of damage is far advanced. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of trumpet teachers regarding injuries related to trumpet playing and to research how the teachers' experiences and knowledge in the subject are reflected in their own pedagogical work. This study also aimed to investigate how trumpet teachers think about methods that they believe can be used in rehabilitation of injuries. Five trumpet teachers were interviewed in a series of semi-structured interviews. Despite their own experience of physical problems, the results showed that the informants did not experience that injuries related to trumpet playing are common. The informants mentioned the importance of introducing a proper playing technique, planning the practicing and promoting a healthy lifestyle as methods for injury prevention. The results also showed that injuries and injury prevention were not discussed in their education and that injuries are discussed to a small extent in the teaching staff. This despite that the informants find the conversation between colleagues and musicians as one of the most important sources of knowledge. Finally, the study indicates a need for further research on methods which can be used in the rehabilitation of injuries related to trumpet playing.
