Sammanfattning: The purpose of the master thesis is to investigate the workers level of awareness of accidents on the work place, personal attitude towards known and unknown risks and how to avoid them. The study will give an indication of the root causes of the risks the workers are taking at the construction site. The study will also research if there are any clear correlations between endangerment and age, gender, level of education, experience etcetera. The study is a quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire. The questionnaire is based on the theory from what factors have the highest impact on why accidents occur. The respondents are divided into groups based on the first questions in the questionnaire and then answers follow up questions on risk they know they take and risks they are unaware of. In total 53 questionnaires have been collected and analysed, all respondents are workers in the Swedish construction business. Results from the study revealed that factors that has the biggest impact on endangerment are; age, experience, witness to an accident or involvement in an accident. Other factors which also has low significant are; level of education, parental status and relationships. The open-ended question capture the workers opinion on what form a safe working place with low endangerment and their responses are; good planning, correct equipment and an organized working space. On the question; who has the highest responsibility to avert injury at the workplace, majority answered themselves. The factors that have the biggest influence on a low endangerment correlate with the answers of the respondents. Age correlates with long experience. The two groups of “have witnessed an accident” and “had been involved in an accident” which are both factors which correlates with low endangerment. This agrees with the theories we found on the subject.
