Arbetsrelaterad stress i en kvinno- respektive mansdominerad verksamhet : En kvalitativ studie om skillnaden i upplevelsen av stress utifrån ett genusperspektiv kopplat till arbetskrav, egenkontroll och socialt stöd
Sammanfattning: Stress is today one of the most common causes of sick leave. Stress is exposed when the compliance between requirements and expectations are not related to the individual’s ability (Arbetsmiljöverket, 2002). Women are more affected by stress (Sundberg, 2015). Jansson (2012) describes that the connections between gender and stress is well documented. The reason for this is that the women take more responsibility in the household. This study examines two different operations in a municipality. One of the operations is female dominated and the other one is male dominated. The purpose of this study is to investigate if and how stress differs from each other in a municipal operation from a gender perspective linked to demands- control and social support. The theoretical framework in this study concerns gender and Karasek and Theorell’s theory about demand- control and social support. The study follows a quality approach in which eleven semi-structured interwievs have been conducted. The results show that the informants in the two operations experience high work requirements. The female dominated operation experience that the stress is often evident in the work compared to the male dominated operation. The experience of control at work differs between the two operations because the male dominated operation has a greater control over the work situation. The empirical results also show that the social support differs and has different meanings to counter stress. As a conclusion the results illustrate that there is no connection between the responsibilities in the household between the sexes since the majority experienced that there was an equal division of labor.
