Detta är en M1-uppsats från Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)

Sammanfattning: This bachelor’s thesis describes a result of a product development project that was conducted during the spring of 2022 as part of the course Degree project for a bachelor's degree in engineering within innovations technology and design. The extent of the course includes 22,5 educational credits and was performed at the educational institution of Karlstad University. Supervisor for the project is Mikael Åsberg and examiner for the course is Leo de Vin. The project was commissioned by Biosorbe AB, which is a producer of a biodegradable absorbent made from cellulose-based pulp. The sanitation process of removing flooding water caused when extinguishing fire is an expensive and time-consuming process. Research has proven that their absorbent was highly effective at absorbing oils whilst rejecting water. The application of the absorbent in combination with activated carbon can absorb oils whilst accumulating toxins from water. The aim of the project is to develop a well-filter adapted to stormwater wells that can filtrate and accumulate environmental toxins from extinguishing water, the product is purposed to be used in the fire department. The project followed the phases of the product development process where various proven methods were implemented during the approach. The phases that were implemented during the project is as follows: project planning, discover, define, develop, deliver and ending phase that summarizes the delivery of the project which includes a written thesis, a presentation and an exhibition. The result of the project is a concept-suggestion presented in a physical and visual format that solves the defined problem whilst meeting the set requirements. The solution consists of a barrel-shaped container merged with a protruding square-shaped collar which can be attached between the well cover and well inlet. Space is left in the bottom of the container for the instalment of two filter cushions that contains absorbent and active coal which enables the filtration of toxins while letting clean water pass through the inlet. The solution contains two functional mechanisms in the form of straps that is used to strap through the grating of the cover and a lace that is used for sealing the container´s inlet. A prototype containing the above-mentioned functionalities was tested in a realistic scenario that led to an interesting conclusion of the project.
