Sammanfattning: A productmachine at the companyABSandvik Coromant has an applicationwhose task is to move aposition objects. The existing machine is malledup of a ball screw driven by linear units and the departmentwants the upcoming linear motor drive that can handle very high speeds and accelerations. The certainopportunities to achieve short cycle times within production to reach amore profitable production.The purpose of the thesis work is to investigate and evaluate whether linear engine operation is possible for the future machine. The existing machine will be set and the prosand cons will be addressed as well as the problems and possiblities for linear motor operation. Interviews withthe suppliers of technical specifications belonging to the applicationwill be implemented to get an idea of how their customers thinkabout it.The aim of the thesis work is to gain an understanding of Linear motors and doan objective investigation to obtain a possible alternative to linear motorthat is in linewith Sandvik ́s requirements and specifications.In order to obtain a proper scientific investigation of the application, an approach has been givenand information collection bothexternaland internal havebeen conducted, including interviews with suppliers, literature studies, discussions on the company and CAD modelsas well as a test of the alternative modules to see if there is a possibility for a linear motor.Aresult has been made where I have assumed the technical requirements and received a recommended model that Sandvik can use. I have also conducted a test in Autodesk Inventor where I have compared the different models I have received from the suppliers and arrived at the final product Sandvik canproceed with.
