The road to RFID - An implementation at a third party logistics provider

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Förpackningslogistik

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this thesis is to develop a generic and operative road map for implementing radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and describe how this road map should be applied at Nowaste Logistics. Furthermore, the purpose is to carry out the RFID implementation at Nowaste Logistics according to the developed road map until a system design is selected and a system integrator is chosen. A plan for a pilot will also be set up. The generic road map is developed following an innovative renewal process. This is done by studying literature concerning RFID implementation models and guidelines and analyse these to develop an operative road map for the RFID implementation process. The road map is then applied at Nowaste Logistics to determine which system design and system integrator should be chosen for their RFID implementation. The thesis uses existing research to develop a generic road map. The thesis also provides insights into how the generic road map should be applied during an RFID implementation at a third party logistics provider. The road map is developed prior to the RFID implementation, but refined during the implementation process. This has to be considered if the road map is applied within other industries, even though the road map is designed to be generic. The practical implication from this thesis is a generic road map which is applied at Nowaste Logistics to guide them in their RFID implementation process. Furthermore, the execution of this road map results in a system design, a system integrator choice and a pilot design. The value of this thesis is a generic road map, which describes the RFID implementation process and is practically illustrated by an implementation at a third party logistics provider in the retail industry.
