Plastavfall från bygg- och rivningsindustrin : En fallstudie om in- och utflöden i en cirkulär ekonomi

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Högskolan i Gävle/Miljövetenskap

Sammanfattning: In 2016 the total amount of construction and demolition waste (CDW) amounted to 9.4 million tonnes, of which 151,640 tonnes was plastic waste, the majority of which was incinirated. If the plastic waste can be circulated within a region, both monetary and environmental benefits can arise. Impossible Plastics manufactures products from plastic waste whose recycling technology places low demands on the fraction's cleanliness, however, a minimum inflow of 8,000 tonnes per year is required. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential to establish a local recycling plant based on plastic waste generated in Gävleborg's construction and demolition industry. Furthermore, the purpose is to review emission differences and how the recycling plant can be located in a circular economy. A qualitative literature review was conducted in order to gain understanding of plastic use and plastic waste in the construction and demolition industry. A supplementary interview study was conducted in order to anchor the study within a practical framework. According to the results of this study, the plastic waste from Gävleborg's construction and demolition industry does not reach enough quantities to establish a facility from Impossible Plastics. With compound molding, products such as pallets, floors, shelves, pallet collars and packing boxes can be manufactured and proposed for use in the construction industry, Region Gävleborg, municipal organizations and the paper industry. Calculations show that there are differences in emissions when comparing energy recovery and material recycling of plastic waste. We can not conclude that Impossible Plastics contributes to a local circular economy.
