Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to identify exerciser athlete’s motivational orientation, coping strategies used and stressors that primarily is perceived in gym training. The study also studied gender differences in relation to motivation orientation, coping strategies and stressors. A survey was conducted with a quantitative design. The study included 118 participants (43 women and 75 men) aged 18 - 42. The results showed no difference regarding motivation orientation between participants. Participants were predominantly emotion-focused current choice of coping strategy. The three most perceived stressors were "Errors," "My performance" and "Injuries." Furthermore, women tended to higher perceive stressors such as “My shape”, “My weight/strength”, “Crowd”, “That instructors are present” and “Others at the gym” than men. For future research it would be interesting to examine the perceived stressors, coping strategies, and motivational orientation between individuals of different ages and number of years training at the gym. In order to determine if age and experience act as an influencing factor.
