Shakespeares genusdröm: en genusvetenskaplig kvalitativ innehållsanalys av "En midsommarnattsdröm"

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Genusvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: In this bachelor’s thesis I analyse William Shakespeare’s comedic play A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the perspective of gender and sexuality. Through a qualitative content analysis, where I found several relevant themes, I explore how gender and sexuality is constructed by the characters in the play. My focus for exploring this is to see how the characters reproduce and/or deconstruct gender norms, how the men’s power is presented in the play, and how heteronormativity is constructed in the play. By using theories from both Candace West & Don H. Zimmerman, Judith Butler, and Sylvia Walby – as well as several other researchers’ takes on the play, both historical and feminist – I can see how these themes are presented through the characters’ interactions in the play.
