Rejoining the Peninsula

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö

Sammanfattning: The peninsular centre of Newcastle has been disconnected from the city and Sydney with the removal of its train corridor. Using the unique landscape, history and street grid the design rejoins the peninsula both physically and culturally to the site. The masterplan proposes a system of green swale streets, a pedestrian axis, hillside viewpoints and lightrail anchored by a new harbourfront development. Specific aboriginal, colonial and industrial historic elements spatially shape the volumes, vegetation and public space. The proposal focuses on creating a waterfront plaza and museum which integrates water management, light rail, native tree species, historic buildings and local topography to create a sustainable and timeless public space.
