Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is dual, partly to illustrate the importance of communicative processes between student’s guardian and relevant representatives of school in establishing problematic school absenteeism, and partly to illuminate which communicative processes promotes school attendance. Qualitative interviews have been performed with five guardians whose children have been into problematic school absenteeism but who have a working school attendance today. The interviews were recorded and transcribed in their entirety. The interviews were analyzed from a relational perspective. The resultat shows that, around children who are in problematic school absenteeism there are often several players involved in addition to the school´s representatives. This means that it can be going on a number of communicative processes parallel. The results show that the communication between home, school and external players has in many cases been inadequate and has tended to be some kind of a struggle between representatives of different professions.   The study’s conclusions shows that one of several determining factors in problematic school absenteeism is that a consensus and common goal is created. The communicative processes between the relevant representatives should lead to a result that contributes the student get a reasonable way back to school attendance. The study also shows that a well working relationship between teacher - student but also between home-school is a factor that leads to success, not only to promote attendance in school but also to prevent problematic school absenteeism.
