Sammanfattning: Abstract Stereotypes are mental representations of for example people groups or places. It has been argued that stereotypes are used to classify for example individuals in to normal and deviant categories. One group in Sweden who are being associated with strong stereotypes and prejudice are individuals of a Muslim background. This study aims at understanding Swedish middle-aged men and woman’s images of Muslims. The overall resarchquestion which the study seeks to answer is; what are Swedish middle-aged men and woman’s images of Muslims? The research design of the study is of a qualitative nature. The method employed is phenomenological analysis. The data collection techniques employed in the study are interviews and projective techniques. The study’s findings indicate that the Swedish middle-aged men and woman’s images of Muslim are of a confirmatory nature. A typical stereotype of individuals of a Muslim background is, according to the respondents, that Muslims are dangerous and hold a female-hostile point of view. Furthermore, all of the respondents exhibit an ethnocentric way of thinking regarding Muslims.
