Produktutveckling med hjälp och stöd för teknisk projektledning : - en kvalitativ studie av tre högteknologiska företag.
Sammanfattning: Due to an increasing global market with a growing competition and an escalating technology development the demands on companies today are increasing. To maximise the output from their recourses they need to be more efficient. The research on product development and how to ensure the efficiencies in the process are extensive and companies could by adapting and implementing the result of this research use its benefits. This master thesis is made for Knightec AB with the aims that through interviews and discussions with three companies investigate, collate, justify and give proposals for product development process together with supporting methods and procedures for technical project management. Besides Knightec AB three other companies located in Sweden has been participating in this study. Through semi structured interviews and discussions in focus groups information from the three involved companies were obtained. Knightec AB established a reference group with employees and with their experiences, the information obtained from the other companies in the study and the litterateur study a suitable product development process were developed. All the companies in this study have American owners and are organized in line-organisations, the projects are independent of these. The results pointed on deficiencies in education, application and existence of current processes, support methods and procedures and deficiencies in communication in and between projects and between the different management levels. The cross-functional work was inadequate and natural meeting places were few and/or where uninspiring decorated. The companies generally invested too little recourses early in the projects. The projects also proved to have an incomplete or poorly formulated specification of requirements and problems in the on going development. A great amount of deficiencies at the studied companies could be related to matters such as communication, premise formulation, location and group dynamics. In a company with the basis in technical products and with a high technical competence it is easy to overlook the non technical parts (communication, premise formulation, location and group dynamic) in the process that also contribute and ensure a successful product during the development. This could be the case in the studied companies. A basic lack of a comprehensive view partly exists in the companies, what the decisions lead to and what the alternatives are. It is difficult to understand why the companies do not invest money and resources to be more efficient with the assistance of supporting methods, but it is easier to understand when considering the fact that the companies present their financial statement annually. As technical project manager, much needs to be considered. The literature as well as this master thesis points out that for an optimum result it is crucial that the company management is committed and highly involved in the ongoing projects. The theory presented in this thesis clearly point out what should be taken into consideration in the current product development in order to work more efficiently and to gather up the resources and the information that already exists . The deficiencies in the companies are clear and are among others the education, understanding /awareness, overall vision and to a certain part how the companies build the company (for the future ore the near future). A technical project manager should above all be broad in her know-how and be aware of how technology, product development processes, supporting methods, group dynamics, premise formulation, location and communication (cross-functional work) can interact in order to contribute to a more effective work concerning the product development.
