Sammanfattning: Today it is important for museums to be able to compete with other tourist attractions. To do that it is essential museum exhibits are designed to provide museum experiences made for all types of visitors. Museums need satisfied costumers therefore satisfaction is a main focus. When museum visitors shows a decrease in concentration or interest, and an increase in selective behavior as visits progresses it is called museum fatigue. This has a negative impact on visitor satisfaction and may affect the museum experience. This report studies the consequences of museum fatigue and related phenomena and the impact on visitor satisfaction. Two museum exhibits at the Swedish History museum in Stockholm were studied; The Gold Room and Speaking Memories, and during observations museum fatigue was identified. By using a conceptual model the museum experience and visitor satisfaction was then evaluated in relations to museum fatigue and related phenomena. Museum fatigue arouse mainly from exhibits having too much text and too many similar objects, the lack of context and one subject being emotionally exhausting. It affected the museum experience and visitor satisfaction negatively. Technological elements showed to decrease museum fatigue and related phenomena, in part. The most important conclusion is that museum exhibits providing varieties in stimulants and elements kept visitors interest and concentration up longer.
