Sammanfattning: Abstract Title: Communication about work environment and safety issues at a construction site Authors: Omar Khorsheed Dhannoon, Amar Ljajic Supervisor: Radhlinah Aulin Examiner: Carlos Martinez Aim & goal: The purpose of this study is to clarify how the communication on work environment and safety issues at a construction site looks like at present. The study investigates the organizational structure and the process for communication at construction companies in addition to identifying where there may be any shortcomings. The study will furthermore provide an indepth knowledge of what communication is, what challenges there are, what methods there are that can be used and how to make communication more effective. The goal is to contribute to reducing the number of occupational injuries and improve the work environment by examining several communication issues regarding work environment and safety issues. The study will examine how professionals and the management in contracting companies experience communication. The aim of the degree project is to find guidelines for how communication on environmental and safety issues should work at a construction site to increase safety and improve the working environment. Research questions: To answer the aim, the following research questions are formulated: 1. How are work environment and safety issues communicated at construction sites? 2. How effective are existing communication channels to increase safety awareness at construction sites? 3. In what ways can the channels be made more efficient? Method: This study is structured according to the following three methods to achieve the desired result of the paper: a literature study, questionnaire survey and interviews. The literature study consists of material obtained from books, published sources, degree projects, reports, and articles. Findings: The literature study in combination with the empirical data shows that the communication of work environment and safety works well on construction sites. Good communication between professionals and management results in improved discussions about risks and safety. This study has concluded that communication is among the most important factors for a safer work environment and a reduction in work accidents. Furthermore, the study has found shortcomings in the process with room for improvement. Keywords: Communication, construction site, Work environment, safety, verbal routines.
