Sammanfattning: During the Covid-19 pandemic, care for the elderly has attracted major attention, leading to changes in the way home care service is being carried out. In accordance with the Public Health Agency guidelines, this has resulted in distance measures and in the use of extensive protective equipment when dealing with the elderly. The aim of this study was to investigate how these protective measures have affected the conditions under which home care staff are able go perform relevant care work. Through a qualitative, semi-structured interview study, my goal was to investigate if the new guidelines were important for the home care staff. experience of performing relevant care work and, if so, what had changed. The results were interpreted and analyzed with the help of humanistic personality psychology and human needs theory. The results show that the home care staff being interviewed did experience changes due to the new restrictions, and that they perceived their efforts to be insufficient due to the protective equipment. However, the study also showed that in contrast to perceived obstacles, there is a continued perceived reward in the work with the elderly and in the care responsibility of the home care staff.
