Leda lagom stressad - En kvalitativ studie om enhetschefers kontrollspann
Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to explore first line managers experiences with their span of control and how this affected their working environment. The method used for this study was qualitative interviews with five first line managers within service housing. Hans Selyes definition of stress was used to analyze the empirical data and Peter Währborgs more developed and modern definition helped making the analyze more up to date. The study found that first line managers past experiences was important in order to get their stress level to an optimal level. There were a number of stressors present in the daily work of the first line managers. The study found that it wasn´t important what kind of stressor the first line managers were exposed to but how intense the effect that the stressor caused. Emotional stressors as frustration and lack of motivation cause more distress than physical stressors. Furthermore, the context was important when investigating whether the span of control was a stressful experience or not. It depended on the job description. The study also found that the first line managers were self-confident about their span of control and the way it affected them both with everyday tasks and time distribution.
