Sammanfattning: “The majority of females are selfish and don’t want to help us lonely men out”- A netnographic study about men who are incels Incel, is short for and means “involuntary celibate”. The purpose of this study was to observe an Internet forum for incels and to examine incels self-images and social context in selected threads. Also, to see the men's perceived reality and how they describe themselves and how this can be understood. With a qualitative approach, a netnographic method was used in which I conducted non-participatory observations to obtain empirical data. The observations of the forum took place during a 2-month period in 2019. This essay uses R.W. Connell’s hegemonic masculinity perspective to analyze how incels describe masculinity and how they perceive their own masculinity. It also uses Erving Goffman’s social stigma perspective to analyze how incels create their own identity. The results of this essay show that Incels believe that they are not masculine enough because they are not sexually active. Their appearance prevents women from wanting to have sex with them, because the women think that they are ugly and unattractive. This causes many incels feeling bad about themselves. Also, in consequence of this incels withdraw from society or isolate themselves. They also act out their aggression towards others or themselves by using verbal or physical violence.
