Studenters attityder till psykologi - En explorativ korrelationsundersökning
Sammanfattning: This explorational study seeks to explore and evaluate the correlations between attitude towards psychology and knowledge about psychology, previous experience in psychology, emotional intelligence, worldview, in- and outgroup. Results found a negative correlation between emotional intelligence and a positive attitude towards psychology, a negative correlation between previous experience of psychology and a positive attitude towards psychology, and a positive correlation between a positive attitude towards psychology and the benevolence aspect of worldview. Furthermore, there were significant differences in experience levels between ingroup and outgroup. If a person values human interactions, they are likely to have a greater appreciation of psychology, and if they are involved in studies of psychology they might overthink their emotion responses in certain situations. The results also showed that if psychology students are viewed by the individual as their ingroup, they have a more positive attitude towards it than the outgroup does. Possible explanations for these results are considered from a social psychological point of view, and implications of the study’s results on everyday life are discussed.
