Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the young unemployed and their experience of being unemployed. This study is written in order to answer how young unemployed people experience their time as unemployed and whether it affects them mentally. This study is also written in order to gain an understanding of how these young individuals share their life as unemployed in relation to the community they live in, and the expectations the community has on young unemployed people. Interviews were conducted in this study. During this study, five young unemployed people between the age of 18-25 were interviewed. The framework behind this study is previous research and theories such as stigma, the stamping theory, and the looking-glass self. While each youth's experience of being unemployed was distinct there were still a lot of similarities in their experience, in terms of their mental health and the society they live in. However many of the young unemployed that took part in this study felt that society had a negative view of unemployed young people and that this view affected their mental health and self-preservation. The view of society on these young unemployed people has an effect on their mental health of these young people. However, this can not be concluded because some of these young people had different experiences.
