Kön, politik & media : En multimodal diskursanalys av fyra svenska politikers mediala gestaltning

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för humaniora och samhällsvetenskap (from 2013)

Sammanfattning: The media today is in many ways responsible for how politics is described and of how our politicians are portrayed. The way in which politicians are being portrayed is affected by gender and power structures in our society. Ultimately, this becomes a problem for the democracy. This aim of this thesis is to highlight the problems which are connected to the relationship between gender, politics and the media.   The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the media portrays of politicians differ depending on the politicians gender. This will be done by analyzing articles of two female and two male politicians before the election in 2014. The research questions that are connected to this purpose deal with how the politicians were portrayed in the media and how these portrayals can be understood as gendered. For this I used the discourse analysis. I looked at four different articles and analyzed them by looking at the written and multimodal text. The results of this study show that there is still a difference in how male and female politicians are portrayed in the media. In this essay I make these differences visable. In some cases they are obvious whiele in others more subtle. I therefore conclude that gender still has an effect in how politicians are portrayed in the media today.
