Sammanfattning: This study Right to the mixed city- a case study of East Kvillebacken is a case study of the making and shaping of a mixed city model in East Kvillebacken, Gothenburg. The main purpose of the study was to examine the making and implementation of the mixed city in East Kvillebacken in aspects of social sustainability, and in what way the place is being represented by planners and residents of the area. To examine this, dialogue interviews with planners and residents of East Kvillebacken, a document analysis of central documents connected to the planning process and an additional survey with the residents were carried out. The result show that there is some discrepancy between the planners and the residents representation of the area, primarily regarding how the target group and the spatial practices that the planners stressed to promote, did not resonate to any great extent with the residents and their preferences. In East Kvillebacken, consequently, the residents different preferences, social factors, values and social barriers has been a more deciding factor of the production and shaping of space than the practices and norms that the planners tried to promote and construct. Finally, the study also demonstrates how the planning of the mixed city in East Kvillebacken in many ways has been a conflict between social values and market strategies, but also between different conflict of aims that have complicated the implementation and analysis of the area in terms of social sustainability.
