Substitutionsbehandling - vägen ur ett beroende eller fortsättning på ett långvarigt missbruk? " en kvalitativ studie om substitutionsbehandling ur ett brukarperspektiv"
Sammanfattning: Abstract Author: Patricia Pawlowska and Fatime Juka Title: Substitute treatment – the way out of an addiction or continuation of a long – term addiction? A qualitative study of substitute treatment from a user perspective. Supervisor: Erika Werner Keywords: substitute treatment, subutex, methadone, drug abuse and heroin. Aim: the aim of this study is to investigate how former drug addicts perceive substitute treatment as a working treatment and what impact it has on their health. Method: We have chosen to execute a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews because we wanted to receive information about the respondent’s personal views and experiences. We have interviewed six people who both receive substitute medications such as methadone and subutex for treatment and both have had a substitute treatment once in their lives. We had three individual interviews and one group interview. The main questions of our study are: - What are the advantages and disadvantages of the substitute treatment? - What impact does substitute treatment have on user’s health based on self- perceived experience and research? - What main reasons have been significant to former drug addicts, in the decision of quitting drug abuse? Results & conclusion: We have supported and enriched our collected empirical data with help of two selected theories: Sense of Coherence (SOC) and theory about labeling. Five out of six respondents’ consider substitute treatment as the best treatment when quitting drug abuse, even though all the interviewees got severe side effects from the methadone and subutex. The majority of the interviewees felt that people, such as family and friends were important and supportive of their decision of quitting drugs.
