Sammanfattning: The school has undergone a lot of changes the last couple of years. The pressure on students has increased as grades have generally fallen and in some areas very much. Studies point to the fact that many students in elementary school struggle a lot with the pressure they experience at school. At the same time, research from our discipline shows that new schools are often built without the new type of stools in mind. Researchers in both psychology and architecture believe that the built environment in school has an impact on the mental health of students. Kids in school are more exposed to the pressure and bullying of other students in some specific environments than others. These, in many cases, can be removed by better architecture. At the same time as grades generally drops, grades also increase in certain areas and at specific schools around the country. Studies show that there is a clear relationship between areas with high middle income and high grade students. Research also shows that segregation in school is bad for the students mental health, whether it concerns a school with a high or low average grade. Stockholm city plans a new district for approx. 15,000 inhabitants at Årstafältet. Old buildings will be side by side with new houses, and income variations will increase in the area. Here a school will be built, a school with space for everyone. This project is the result of a number of rules, a framework for the design. These rules were set before the design work started and all decisions taken on the road in some way relate to a number of these rules. This project is a physical translation of a school that was drawn from these rules. Design work has been secondary throughout the design process. Of course, the rules do not exclude good architectural quality, but the project is an investigation into what happens when the shape is a product of a concept.
