Kvinnors deltagande och hållbar fred En kvantitativ studie av betydelsen av gender sensitive provisions i fredsavtal och hållbar fred

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Göteborgs universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: Women’s participation in peace processes is meaningful in order to bring about a durable peace. Previous research shows that peace agreements signed by women have a higher implementation rate than peace agreements signed by only men. The numbers of peace agreements signed by women are few, but qualitative research shows that women collaborate more with other parties and represent interests often excluded in peace negotiations. These factors are important in order to bring about a durable peace. Even though previous research indicates that women’s participation is meaningful for achieving a durable peace, women are underrepresented in peace processes. It is known that women suffer from various kinds of violence in conflict affected societies, which can be prevented if women’s rights are included in peace agreements. Research shows that peace agreements include more gender sensitive provisions when women participate in the peace process, but no research has been done of whether or not these provisions can affect the durability of peace. The aim of this study is to investigate if gender sensitive provisions in peace agreements affect the durability of peace. The results of a statistical analysis indicates that gender sensitive provisions can affect the durability of peace, but more research is needed in order to conclude this.
