Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to examine in which ways desire is expressed and how it can be understood in Majken Johanssons three first published poetry collections Buskteater (1952), I grund och botten (1956) and Andens undanflykt (1958). To do so I use the theories of desire of Elizabeth Grosz, Sigmund Freud and Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. In the poetry collections death is a recurring theme and to better examine what death means in term of man’s ambivalent relationship to it I use Zygmunt Bauman's Döden och odödligheten i det moderna samhället (1994) (Mortality, Immortality, and Other Life Strategies).  As a result I find that desire in the poetry collections is expressed both clearly and unclearly, the desire is also double and ambiguous, often are two polemic desires expressed at once. This ambiguity puts the I of the poems in an ambivalent state of suffering.
